Design a promotional video for the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program.
Utilizing an information story-telling approach, CASA – A Program That Works, won fourth place at the CSU Media Arts Festival in 2017. After researching information on CASA and writing the script, collaboration began with Michelle Murillo for the narration. This provided me with a platform to design the video utilizing pictograms as visual representation of the data. Using techniques such as kinetic typography, and information design allowed this video to come to life as Murillo guides us through the story.

Paul Dresher dynamic poster
Design a poster for the Paul Dresher concert in both print and dynamic formats.
The unique sounds of Paul Dresher created a challenging platform from which to build this poster. The first step, creating a photogram for the background of the design, had me channel my inner abstract artist. Utilizing simple office supplies, a photography session landed the perfect array of pictures and Photoshop helped to hone the final image. The next hurdle I encountered was the grid. To design with a more complex grid, that complimented both the image and text to unify the design, I had to let go of all the conventional grid and type design techniques. This allowed me to create a more cohesive image that conveys the information in a dynamic way. The curved type and contrast in size and opacity creates motion throughout the image. Lastly, the static image was designed to become a moving poster. Embracing the existing movement within the design, the poster comes to life, endlessly looping, to provide viewers with an interactive experience when viewing the image.

dynamic music animation
Create a movie utilizing sound and motion techniques.
To be able to effectively design a motion piece that uses music, After Effects’ vector morphing capabilities came in handy throughout the project. Utilizing a segment of Paul Walker’s song, Routine, each object in the design syncs up to certain frequencies allowing cohesion between the music and images. Implementing different motion techniques, such as scale, rotate, and color fill into the objects, further allowed the motion in the design to become more energetic. The Dynamic Animation piece is a joy to watch as Walker’s music comes to life before your eyes. The techniques used in this design provided a more successful platform to design CASA – A Program That Works, which won fourth place at the CSU Media Arts Festival in 2017.
